Joseph was born and raised in the small village of Port Robinson in the middle of the Niagara Peninsula in Southern Ontario. The bridge (above) over the Welland Canal, was the only link between the two sides of the community and it was destroyed in August 1974. He is a graduate of Brock University, Guelph University, Dalhousie University and the Technical University of Nova Scotia. After a career in science with the government of Canada and NATO, he is happily retired and now lives in Nova Scotia with his wife Edith. He has two daughters, who both are scientists. An avid reader all his life he has begun writing in his retirement. Working from his cottage on the Northumberland Strait. |
He wrote his first novel, The Guardians of Grimace. Based on the bedtime stories he told to his daughters, this story grew into an engaging sci/fi, fantasy that is suitable for young readers. The Sphere Conflict, his second book, is a change from young adult to adult fiction. It pulls a more mature story together that combines climate change, politics and the pursuit of a clean energy future, and is set in the near future of 2074. He is currently working on a sequel to The Sphere Conflict which will be titled The Sphere Wars.
During his career, he worked for Environment Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Department of National Defence and then NATO. During this time he worked as a Soil and Water Conservation Research Officer in EC, the Manager of the Oceans and Coastal Management Division in the Maritime Region of DFO, Deputy Director General of the Halifax Lab of Defence Research and Development, DND and finally as the Deputy Director of NATO`s Centre for Marine Research and Experimentation, located in La Spezia, Italy. His broad work experience is reflected in the stories he has developed.
Joseph has a passion for classic sports cars. His current collection includes a 1981 Lancia Monte Carlo, a 1981 Fiat Spyder and a 1974 Porsche 914.

He is an avid curler in the winter at the Dartmouth Curling Club. He enjoys tending to his grapevines at the cottage in the summer and wine making during the fall.
