The worlds deserts are expanding
The Sphere Conflict is set in a world of the future, ranging from Canada's Arctic to Russia, China, Africa and the US. Migration due to climate change, economic realignment and geopolitical changes have all moved Canada to a lead position in the world's energy picture. The story involves big science and even bigger engineering. The lead character is in charge of the most ambitious project ever undertaken. He is a leader in the field of particle physics. An old friend leads the fight against the loss of cropland and a new relationship helps him chart the complex political waters. In this future world, the effects of climate change threaten the ability of the world to feed itself. Desertification has stripped many parts of the globe of its soil. Water shortages are endemic. Failed states are creating havoc around the globe. As this is happening the race is on to free the Earth from fossil fuels through the efforts of world physicists in Canada's Arctic.
